Hi friends.
It’s my favorite time of year: ✨ reflection season! ✨ Those of you who have been around here since the beginning know this. Every December, I dedicate part of a day—or a span of days—to intentionally reflect on the year. I pour a cup of tea, curl up somewhere comfy, put on a holiday playlist, and open my journal. What were the highlights and lowlights? What did I learn? How did I grow? In what ways did my relationships shift? I love taking this guided tour through my memories from the year because it creates a space to honor, celebrate, meditate, and learn from everything I experienced over the last 12 months before another year starts. It usually stirs up the whole spectrum of emotions. I cry, I laugh, I seethe.
Because of that, revisiting the past can feel overwhelming. I haven’t had a chance this month to carve out time yet. Part of me is a little resistant because I’m still finishing up projects and feeling restless heading into the holidays. I’m also just not ready to rectify everything that I went through as an individual and everything we experienced collectively as humans on this earth. It can be too damn heavy and intense. But more and more, I realize it’s healthy for me to reflect on these things whenever I’m ready. Otherwise, I tend to feel like I’m floating through life. I’m paying close attention to my body’s cues to know when I’m ready for reflection mode. Usually when I feel eager. Usually when I feel safe.
Below, I’ve compiled 30 of my favorite year-end reflection prompts—10 about personal growth, 10 about relationships, and 10 about creative practice. These have been collected from various places and modified throughout the years. Hopefully by focusing on these three aspects of your year you can cultivate some comfort. Only if it feels right, I encourage you to answer them for yourself.
With love,
Amelia
P.S. I usually do a separate reflection of my freelance business. Maybe a post for another time? Let me know if you’re curious.
