Honing Her Craft is a newsletter about writing and connecting through creative practices from me, Amelia Arvesen, a journalist and creative person. You can subscribe here.
Hello! Long time no see!
You might have noticed that I took an unannounced hiatus from here for several months. A reader and friend I recently met for dinner asked me what happened to Honing Her Craft, and in my surprise that she had even noticed the lapse, I didn’t really have a good answer. I still don’t have a good one for you. It’s just that my heart was telling me to put it down for a while, so I listened. I stayed logged out from August to now. I even skipped celebrating its second anniversary in September. (I’ll accept belated wishes in celebration though!) Well, now my heart is telling me to pick it back up, and I’m wondering, how can I even trust my heart if it keeps changing its mind? But change is a fact of life, I suppose, and taking a step back provide me with new perspective.
So yes, Honing Her Craft is back but with a few changes. Firstly, I’m launching a very optional paid subscription model to support my work in this space moving forward. But don’t worry! For those of you who read HHC for the interviews and writing updates, I welcome you to stay. Interviews—both past and future, which I’ll add as I have the capacity—will remain unlocked. And you’ll also get a monthly edition of my current favorites recently published stories. A new one of those will be going out tomorrow.
But for those of you looking to connect on a deeper level with me as a writer and fellow creative human, I’m inviting you to become a paid subscriber for $5/month or $45/year. I am hoping to cultivate a community of people who are also looking for connection in their creative practice and who are open to some of the more tender topics I want to explore, just not in front of the whole public.
A paid subscription includes:
Frequent bonus content like essays, reporting, and other goodies on the topic of creative expression
Community and connection through discussion threads and office hours
Other fun surprises as I continue to experiment and grow (freebies? meetups?)
My eternal gratitude for showing up and supporting me
Oh, and a steady stream of photos of my dog, Kona
I’m eager to take the next step with HHC, and I’m grateful for your continued readership, whether you’re sticking around on the free or paid list. You being here means the world to me. I can’t wait to share about my creative practices and learn more from yours. Ready to join? Here’s the button for that:
(If a subscription is beyond your financial means, please let me know so I can add you to the list. No questions asked.)
With love from my corner office,
Amelia
