In the spring, I bought a Minolta SRT 101 for $55 from an artist I follow on Instagram. I’d never owned a film camera before and this seemed like a good enough price for an impulse buy. It came packed in bubble wrap and wads of newspaper, secured against any bumps along its journey from Salt Lake City.
But once it arrived, it sat on the windowsill until July, even though I had film. I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up right away. Too many other things to do. Easier to just use my iPhone. That’s what happens with impulse buys.
Once I found a little time though, I read an article and watched a video, and we planned a camping trip to Mt. Hood—the perfect setting to test it.
Scenic views. Natural light. We haven’t been in the mountains as much as we’ve wanted this summer. It makes me sad to see the van parked day after day on the street. Too many other things to do. Easier to just stay close to home.
