Hi everyone! Since I started HHC, I’ve wanted to foster community among creative people. In today’s discussion thread (yup, I’m bringing them back!), I’m giving y’all a chance to introduce yourselves. Who are you? Where are you from? What are your creative practices? Where can we find your work? What are you working on?
Hi all! I'm Patrice (she/her) and I'm a writer and author. I live in a tiny cabin outside of Denali National Park (been here since 2019). I mostly write gear reviews and travel narratives, but I also blog (that's my non-paying creative outlet--anyone remember blogs?!?! I'm still holding on tight to mine). I love hiking, backpacking, XC skiing and snowshoeing, but also reading from the comfort of my tiny cabin while the snow falls outside.
Hi all! I'm Tori (she/they) and I'm originally from Southwest Colorado but currently live in Richmond, Virginia. I'm a photographer and movement artist meaning I got my degree in Modern Dance and then pivoted to photography where my professional movement research which was heavily informed by skiing and skateboarding has given me a new direction into the outdoor industry. My life right now is heavily run by my work load but when I can make space for my own creativity it's often a merging of my own movement and capturing others in motion. You can often find me skiing, biking, or hiking but a cold beer on my porch with my two dogs and parter is just as celebrated.
You can find my work at toriduhaime.com or on IG at @toriduhaime.
Hi Tori, thanks for chiming in! I love that you're exploring the intersection of so many different activities and movements. I always learn a lot from what you share on IG <3
I'm Eva :) Based in NSW, Australia! I run my own videography and photography business called Tideline Productions and do some writing on the side.
Outside that I love reading, surfing, hiking (both day and overnight stuff) and spending good qual time with my fam.
It's always so comforting to know that there are other women creators out there doing their thing on the other side of the world :) If anyone decides to visit Aus you've got a place to stay! <3
Ya'll are fascinating! I'm Hatie. I live in a yurt in Wisconsin. I am a writer and editor in the outdoor industry! I love dabbling in sewing (more in the winter), growing food, and watching my dogs interact with my chickens. I also love reading. So much. What book did you last read that you loved? I am struggling to get into books lately so I went back to a teenage series I really liked and have finally made reading part of my day again! (It's the Charlie Bone series... if you're curious!)
Hi Hatie! I love reading and sharing book recommendations. What kinds of books are you into? I read a lot of non-fiction, memoir, and anything written by badass women :) Let me know if you want some recs!
Hi Hatie! I think it's so cool that you live in a yurt and have chickens.
I just read Woman of Light by Kali Fajardo-Anstine, a historical fiction about Denver from the perspective of an Indigenous Chicano family. It was vivid, beautifully written, and also a little bit mystical. I'm currently in the middle of There There by Tommy Orange, a collection of stories about 12 Native characters living in Oakland. Loving it so far.
Hey y'all! My name is Marley and I'm a freelance photographer, videographer, and science writer. I live in central North Carolina but I travel a lot, both for my job and for fun adventures. The professional work I do as a science communicator requires a large dose of creativity (and tenacity!) but my creative practices at home center around writing for myself, taking fun photos, and cooking homemade vegetarian food.
In both my personal and professional life, I alternate between the ocean and the mountains. I spend a lot of time working at sea (and I love scuba diving/free diving) but I also try to get to high places (hiking/backpacking/mountaineering) as often as possible.
Thanks so much to Amelia for creating this space! Being a full-time freelancer can feel a bit lonely at times, and reading through the personal stories on HHC always gives me a boost :)
Marley, I'm so glad you're here! I definitely agree that freelancing can feel isolating, so I'm thrilled to hear that HHC is a highlight for you. Sneak peek: I'm cooking up more ideas to cultivate community...
My name is Charli. I’m from Lake Tahoe originally. Since 2015, I’ve been based in Portland, OR and I guess this is home now! It’s hard to admit because I would always rather be on the road. That’s the rock climber in me. I teach yoga at a rock gym and am trying to my darnedest to get my freelance illustration career up and running. Oh, I also enjoy running. Especially on trails with my border collies.
I'm Kelly! I'm originally from Maine but have been in Boulder, CO for 9 years now. I don't really consider myself a creative, but I do work full-time in Employee Health, Wellness & Ergonomics, so I spend a lot of time developing creative ways to help improve population health. I also teach classes at a local climbing gym and work hard to make every class different to keep it interesting for my students!
You are creative!!! Just thinking back to hungry hippos, hedgehog under the chin, arm circles to music, and all the other fun concepts you create during your workouts.
I'll go first :) I'm Amelia. I just moved to Portland, OR. And right now, my creative practices are writing personal essays, sewing my own wardrobe, and creating this space!

Just took a peek at your website. Love your stuff! Feel free to reach out if your work ever brings you down to North Carolina :)
Wow, thanks Marley and right back at you and your work! If you find yourself north in RVA, don't hesitate to reach out!

Eva, I'm so glad you're here representing creative Aussies! I always think about your stop motion video because I just thought that was so cool.

What?! Another Portlander! We must get coffee! So nice to meet you, Charli.
Yes, let’s! I saw your Forest Park picture in the email and remembered you’d said you’d moved here. Welcome!
